Discover the wild horses of Patagonia—herds of untamed stallions and mares roaming Torres del Paine’s fields and pampas. With a skilled guide and tracking equipment, you’ll enjoy stunning views, incredible wildlife, and unforgettable experiences while tracking these majestic creatures!
EcoCamp Extension
Option 1: After breakfast, we'll drive to Laguna Azul and start a 4x4 journey through Cordillera Masle. We’ll visit a traditional "puesto" to learn about Patagonian gauchos and wild horses. Using satellite tracking, we’ll search for 100 wild horses in Torres del Paine. After observing the horses and enjoying lunch with views of Lago Stokes and the Towers, we’ll return to EcoCamp for dinner.
Option 2: This option focuses on wild horse research and conservation. Similar to Option 1, but participants with basic knowledge of wild horse behavior will join our team for a day, contributing to scientific research and conservation efforts.
Overnight at EcoCamp Patagonia.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
Ecocamp Patagonia is located in the heart of Torres del Paine National Park in Chile, with a unique view of the majestic granite towers. The region’s first fully sustainable accommodation south of the Amazon and the first of its kind in the Patagonian wilderness, EcoCamp offers upscale camping in geodesic domes inspired by the region’s ancient nomadic inhabitants.
Suite domes were designed to further our goal of providing comfort in a natural setting with minimal environmental impact, and also maintain the hotel’s familiar and cozy vibe. The domes have comfortable double or twin beds, a wood stove and a private bathroom with a state-of-the-art composting toilet.
Suite dome lofts are two-storey domes which fit up to four people and have comfortable double or twin beds both up and downstairs. These domes, ideal for families or groups of friends, come with a wood stove, a private terrace and a private bathroom with a state-of-the-art composting toilet.
Spacious, comfortable and equipped with private bathrooms, Superior Domes are the optimum choice for trekkers wanting that bit more space and comfort at the end of a long day’s walk. Each Superior Dome has comfortable queen-size or twin beds, a propane heater, skylight windows and a private bathroom with a sophisticated composting toilet
EcoCamp Standard domes were the world's first lodge accommodation in geodesic shape. They are resistant to the strong Patagonian winds, and come equipped with two single beds (doubles on request), cozy fleece blankets and feather quilts. There are windows in the ceiling for stargazing. Standard domes include shared bathrooms which are large, comfortable and gender divided.
Semi-private departures are available every day from October to April
EcoCamp Extras are excursions you can book in addition to our regular EcoCamp programs, to enhance your experience in Patagonia!. These tours can take place before or after your main program. Still, we strongly recommend doing them afterward to maximize your arrival experience at EcoCamp with your fellow trekking/Safari group members. Transport in and out of the park is not included, as your regular program with EcoCamp covers these services. If you wish to book an EcoCamp Extra without any other EcoCamp program, please contact us so we can quote you.
The trip starts and ends at Ecocamp Patagonia.
You must be able to walk 4-12km and carry your own backpack.
Transport during excursions in vans and 4x4.
The vast unbroken stretch of ocean to the west and south of the South American continent leaves the Patagonian Andes very exposed to the saturated winds that circle the Antarctic landmass. Also, both the strong marine and the South Patagonic Ice field influence make the weather hard to predict. In spring or early summer, fine weather may deteriorate almost without warning, bringing rains and eventually snow. Even in summer (December to March) you should come prepared to find cold- strong winds (up to 130 km/hr) and rainfalls. The summer’s average temperature is 11ºC/52ºF (24ºC max, 2ºC min).
Appropriate clothes (hiking boots, comfortable clothes, windbreaker, sunhat, sunglasses, sunblock, water bottle, personal backpack).
We reserve the right to change the order of the days in any itinerary at the discretion of the trip guide and based on operational considerations. The trip guide can modify, change or eliminate part of the itinerary based on safety/weather considerations.
