The excursion begins after a hearty, delicious breakfast at EcoCamp. Around 10 AM, we will leave and head towards Grey Lake. Once arriving in the area, we will take a boat ride to the beaches of Grey Refugio.
After the group and instructors gather together, we’ll be given the necessary equipment and discuss safety and technical matters. Then we will start paddling on Grey Lake, where we’ll enjoy unique views of the eastern face of Grey Glacier and the icebergs falling from it.
After the 2.5 hour excursion, we’ll take a catamaran again and return back to EcoCamp, just in time for dinner and a well-deserved rest.
Regular departures are available every day on request.
>> Please note this trip is an EcoCamp Extension and is to be enjoyed as an add-on to one of our other Ecocamp Patagonia programs.
What is an EcoCamp Extension?
EcoCamp Extensions are excursions you can book in addition to our regular EcoCamp programs to enhance your experience in Patagonia! These tours can take place before or after your main program but we strongly recommend doing them afterward in order to maximize your initial experience at EcoCamp with your fellow trekking/Safari group members. Transport in and out of the park is not included as these services are covered by your regular program with EcoCamp.
This trip starts and ends with pick-up and drop-off at EcoCamp Patagonia.
This trip requires you to be in good physical condition.
The minimum age required is 16 years old and a maximum of 65 years old.
In Torres del Paine and throughout Patagonia, transportation is in a minivan which normally seats between 8 to 14 people.
The vast unbroken stretch of ocean to the west and south of the South American continent leaves the Patagonian Andes very exposed to winds that circle the Antarctic landmass. In addition, the strong marine influence and the effect of the Southern Patagonian Ice field make the weather hard to predict. In spring or early summer fine weather may deteriorate almost without warning, bringing rain and even snow. Even in summer (December to March) you should come prepared to find strong cold winds (up to 130km/hr) and rainfall. The summer’s average temperature is 11ºC/52ºF (24ºCmax, 2ºC min). However, just as quickly as the weather turns nasty, it can become lovely and sunny. So come prepared for all types of weather!
Once you book the trip, we will send you a pre-trip booklet with detailed information about your program and extension.
The weather in Patagonia can be difficult to deal with at times and during low and shoulder seasons (From April to October), the boat trip to Grey Glacier may be canceled. If that
