Itinerary

Full day Kayak on Grey & Serrano Rivers

Torres del Paine, Chile

After breakfast at EcoCamp, we will head off at 7:30 AM to the Serrano area in the western sector of the park arriving at around 9 AM at Serrano Base. From here, we will board another vehicle and head to the Pingo River where we will take part in a safety talk (20 minutes approx.).

Afterwards, it’s time to get into the water! Once our kayaks are in, we will move gently with the river’s current towards the Grey Lake Peninsula to see the glacier’s impressive icebergs. After enjoying the moment, it’s time to continue down the Grey River for the next 3 hours.

At Puente Grey, we’ll stop to eat our box lunch before continuing downstream to the confluence of the Grey and Serrano Rivers. Around 20 minutes later we’ll return to where our adventure started, at Villa Serrano, after an amazing day on the water. Then we take the van returning to EcoCamp for our evening aperitif and meal.

Overnight at Ecocamp Patagonia.

What is an EcoCamp Extension?

EcoCamp Extensions are excursions you can book in addition to our regular EcoCamp programs to enhance your experience in Patagonia! These tours can take place before or after your main program but we strongly recommend doing them afterward in order to maximize your initial experience at EcoCamp with your fellow trekking/Safari group members. Transport in and out of the park is not included as these services are covered by your regular program with EcoCamp.

Physical demands

In Torres del Paine and throughout Patagonia, transportation is in a minivan which normally seats between 8 to 14 people.

Weather

The vast unbroken stretch of ocean to the west and south of the South American continent leaves the Patagonian Andes very exposed to winds that circle the Antarctic landmass. In addition, the strong marine influence and the effect of the Southern Patagonian Ice field make the weather hard to predict. In spring or early summer fine weather may deteriorate almost without warning, bringing rain and even snow. Even in summer (December to March) you should come prepared to find strong cold winds (up to 130km/hr) and rainfall. The summer’s average temperature is 11ºC/52ºF (24ºCmax, 2ºC min). However, just as quickly as the weather turns nasty, it can become lovely and sunny. So come prepared for all types of weather!

What you need to bring

Once you book the trip, we will send you a pre-trip booklet with detailed information about your program and extension.

Itinerary modifications

The weather in Patagonia can be difficult to deal with at times and during low and shoulder seasons (From April to October), the boat trip to Grey Glacier, Pehoé Lake crossing, along other water activities may be canceled.
