Snowshoe through the heart of the Andes between Chile and Argentina to see winter from the top of the world! Led by an expert mountaineering guide, leave the noise of Santiago behind to enjoy a thrilling day exploring the snowy trails of the Andes, surrounded by stunning views and learning about the diverse geology and flora and fauna of Chile.
Hike through the majestic Andes Mountains via the picturesque valley of Cajón del Maipo on this wintry trekking adventure. After pick up and departure from Santiago, we start out heading east towards the mountains, with our expert guide surveying the surroundings and conditions to pick the perfect location for our trek.
The very first stop is a small market where we’ll stock up on snacks for our trek. Shortly after, we arrive at the starting point of the hike, where the guide will explain how to use the snow shoes and other safety instructions to ensure maximum safety, comfort, and enjoyment of the trek.
After ascending for approximately two and a half hours, we arrive at the Aguas Panimavida area, where we can survey and marvel at the stunning landscape, including being awed by the prowess and majesty of El Morado mountain, soaring 15,246 feet (4,467 meters) into the sky. After walking deeper into the Andean mountain range, we will stop for a box lunch (usually a sandwich with fruit, snacks, and juice – vegetarian option available), while the guide tells stories about the surrounding volcanoes and mountains.
After a brief rest, our guide will lead the way back down to the minivan, which will take you (if the group wants) to a local place to have a typical Chilean dish and a beer, and then back to Santiago.
