Step into the living culture of Chiloé on a 3-day journey through its historic towns, native forests, coastal landscapes, and deeply rooted traditions. Explore heritage churches, share local flavors, discover penguins in Puñihuil during the nesting season, and experience the island’s distinctive mythology, architecture, and way of life.

Your journey begins in Puerto Montt (or Puerto Varas). Cross the Chacao Channel to Ancud, visit its market and the Friends of Chiloé Churches Museum, then reach Puñihuil for lunch by the sea and a boat trip around three islets where Humboldt and Magellanic penguins nest. Continue to Castro.
From April to August, after penguin season ends, the Puñihuil navigation is replaced by Fuerte Ahui, 42 km from Ancud on the Lacuy Peninsula. This Spanish fort was built to defend colonial Chiloé and restored in the 20th century by historians and the local community. See its remains, cannons, and site museum. Lunch is included with either experience.
Overnight at Hotel Boutique Palafito 1326, or similar, Castro.

Travel south from Castro alongside Huillinco and Cucao lakes toward Chiloé National Park. After the walk, visit a rural Indigenous community in Quilque for a light homemade lunch prepared with traditional local ingredients.
On the way back to Castro, stop in Chonchi to visit the San Carlos Borromeo Church, one of Chiloé’s remarkable wooden heritage churches.

Puñihuil navigation is available from September to March, subject to weather conditions. From April to August, it is replaced by a visit to Fuerte Ahui.
The trip starts at your hotel in Puerto Varas or Puerto Montt Airport on Day 1 and finishes on Day 3 at your hotel in Puerto Varas or Puerto Montt Airport.
The itinerary combines cultural visits, low-intensity walks, local gastronomy, and coastal landscapes. The Puñihuil boat trip is weather dependent. During the low season, Fuerte Ahui becomes the Day 1 alternative, with lunch included in both experiences.
This trip is easy and suitable for travelers who enjoy cultural exploration and gentle walks. Day 2 includes an easy walk of approximately two hours on the El Tepual Trail, over mostly flat terrain.
Transport is provided in a private vehicle selected according to group size and operational requirements.
Normally Mahindra Scorpion (up to 3 people group). For larger group size we use a Hyundai H1 (4-6 people group).
Chiloé’s weather can change quickly throughout the year. Rain is possible in every season, even during summer, so waterproof clothing is essential. Summer temperatures generally range from 8°C / 46°F to 30°C / 86°F, while winter is cooler and wetter.
Bring a small day backpack, waterproof hiking shoes, waterproof jacket, warm layers, sunscreen, sunglasses, reusable water bottle, and personal items.
We reserve the right to adjust the itinerary order or modify activities according to weather, safety, road conditions, navigation conditions, or other operational considerations.
