Day 2: Rano Kau, Orongo & Vinapu

Easter Island, Chile

After breakfast, we drive to Rano Kau Volcano, the largest on the island. From its viewpoints, we admire the vast crater, freshwater lagoon, floating totora reeds and offshore islets—an area closely linked to the island’s Birdman (Tangata Manu) tradition. We then visit the ceremonial village of Orongo, now accessible via a newly enabled trail, to explore its stone dwellings and remarkable petroglyphs. Next, we continue to Vinapu, renowned for its impressive stonework and ceremonial platforms, before returning to Hanga Roa. The afternoon is free to relax or explore at your own pace. Excursion Time: Approximately 2.5–3 hrs

Note: Access to Orongo is regulated, with a maximum of 15 guests per guide. Groups enter in turns, so waits or delays may occur.

Overnight: Hotel Hare Nua, Superior Room (or similar).

Meals: breakfast.

We begin at Ahu Akahanga before continuing to Rano Raraku, the volcanic quarry where hundreds of moai were carved and many remain unfinished. We then visit the monumental Ahu Tongariki, followed by Te Pito Kura and Ahu Nau Nau. Our final stop is Anakena Beach, with its white sand, palms and strong connection to the island’s early history, before returning to Hanga Roa after a day immersed in Rapa Nui’s extraordinary cultural heritage. Excursion Time: Approximately 6–7 hrs.

We then continue to Ahu Akivi, an inland ceremonial platform with seven moai facing toward the ocean, a distinctive feature among the island’s monuments. The excursion finishes at Tahai, an impressive ceremonial complex near Hanga Roa where restored moai, stone platforms and the Pacific create one of Rapa Nui’s most memorable settings.
