Atacama Extension Program
There’s much more to the Atacama than the Tatio Geysers, Valle de Luna, and San Pedro. Hit up this little known but equally beautiful valley on this fun and exciting bike tour through the San Pedro River canyon, surrounded by unbeatable views and feeling the thrill of adventure!
We depart San Pedro on our bikes, following the course of the river of the same name. The landscape is a mixture of the surrounding oasis and the Cordillera de la Sal. After crossing the river, we reach the Quebrada del Diablo, an ancient river with steep clay walls - a unique and beautiful place. We will cycle along a sandy path in a soft but steady rise, until we reach the exit of the labyrinth of the Quebrada. We are then greeted by a stunning view of contrasts - the oasis of a massive expanse of Catarpe crops. We follow the natural path of the river back to San Pedro.
During season 2021-2022 excursions are subject to availability and the opening of the indigenous communities to carry them out. Alternatives will be informed in case the activities described in the itinerary are not available.
Regular Departures on request.
The trip starts at your hotel and ends at the same place.
This trip requires a moderate level of fitness. Those used to hiking on weekends or doing regular cycling or jogging etc should have no problem. Participants should be 12 years of age or older.
Transport to and from the hotel will be on bikes!
In the Atacama region, the weather follows a typical desert pattern of hot days and cold nights. The Atacama Desert is considered to be the driest place on earth and rain is rare at any time of year, although it should be noted that between December and March, Bolivia's wet winter weather can sometimes cause unexpected rainfall in the Atacama.
Comfortable walking shorts, clothes and shoes. Also the camera, sunscreen, and sunglasses.
We reserve the right to change the order of the days in any itinerary at the discretion of the trip guide and based on operational considerations. The trip guide can modify, change or eliminate part of the itinerary based on safety/weather considerations.
