The 2016-17 season is over.

Yet for all those who traveled to EcoCamp – or worked with us – during these 8 months, this season was unlike any other season. EcoCamp was born 15 years ago, when Javier Lopez, Yerko Ivelic and Nani Astorga founded the first geodesic hotel in the world in the wilds of Torres del Paine National Park. During the past 15 years EcoCamp has become one of the most inspiring hotels in the world, while creating lifelasting memories for guests from around the world and serving as a model for sustainable tourism worldwide.

And the 'Tourism Oscar' for best adventure travel destination goes to: Chile!

And the 'Tourism Oscar' for best adventure travel destination goes to: Chile!

As I was a child, my parents always described Chile to me as a long and thin country, with heaps of giant mountains. That’s about all I knew about the land. I had no idea Chile had so many contrasts that made it so unique compared to the other countries in South America.

Pucon Road Trip

PUCON-ROAD-TRIP

Chile is a country whose shape makes a road trip quite ridiculously simple. Long and thin, the Andes a constant companion to the east and the calming knowledge that the west coast is never far away, it is difficult to lose your bearings. Pretty basic - head south and the mountains are on your left… head north and they are on your right. The sun sets by the sea and takes its time to rise over the height of the mighty Andes in the east. Around 800 kilometers (500 miles) south of Santiago lies the adventure destination of Pucon.

"Where's that coming from? That rhythmic pounding, that galloping sound. Starting off from far away, it's getting closer...as if about to pass right in front of us!”

Thankfully, it's not a guy hiding behind a tree clapping coconut shells together! Far better, that galloping signals the arrival of a herd of baguales, or wild Patagonian horses, who roam the steppe after escaping the gauchos’ domesticity.
