NEW Atacama Desert - Cultural Adventure

A new day, a brand new program in our Top Picks series! Today we bring you a unique cultural adventure in the Atacama desert! This trip is designed to lead you along hidden trails, through culturally rich indigenous villages, past celebrated natural and archeological sites and into the depths of the world’s driest desert. Prepare to be amazed by the curving sand dunes, the orange desert horizon, the sharp gullies, dried river basins, hidden villages, steaming geysers and endless dazzling salt flat. 
 
The trip begins at Calama airport with you being driven to desert oasis town San Pedro de Atacama, hub for nearly all Atcama desert tours. The afternoon excursion you hike along a narrow gully and down into Cari canyon with picturesque caverns to enjoy one of the world’s most beautiful sunsets over Moon Valley. Day 2 brings you deep into the desert’s history as you hike to ancient cave paintings along the same route as ancient shepherds, ending the day at the famous Chaxa lagoon in the Atacama Salt Flat. Day 3 starts with excitement at the Tatio Geysers watching steam burst up above high above the ground over a large geothermal field, followed by a hike to the Copa Coya plateau with views over the Alto El Loa villages. Day 4 brings the opportunity to visit one of the Alto El Loa communities, 150km from San Pedro, and learn about the history of the community while appreciating their current day lifestyle. Day 5 is departure day and you’re driven back to Calama to catch your onward flight.
