EcoCamp awarded World Responsible Tourism Day approval

EcoCamp has been awarded the World Travel Mart World Responsible Tourism Day seal of approval, following its success at last year’s Virgin Responsible Tourism awards. As one of the Highly Commended organisations of the Responsible Tourism Awards in association with World Travel Market, EcoCamp is part of a select few companies around the world which has automatically been approved to use the WTM World Responsible Tourism Day 2013 logo to highlight their commitment to responsible travel. The World Responsible Tourism Day is designed to celebrate sustainable projects across the world and underline the crucial role that responsible tourism must play in the future success of the international travel and the tourism industry.

The 2013 WTM World Responsible Day will take place on Wednesday November 6th at London’s World Travel Mart and has BBC World News as its official sponsor. WTM World Responsible Tourism Day is now four years old and has been working together with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) - the United Nations agency responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism. UNWTO encourages the implementation of the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, to maximize tourism’s socio-economic contribution while minimizing its possible negative impacts, and is committed to promoting tourism as an instrument in achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), geared towards reducing poverty and fostering sustainable development.

EcoCamp Patagonia is focused on the triple bottom line - people, planet and profit - which help make it sustainable and ensure everyone benefits from its operation. The Responsible Tourism awards’ recognition of EcoCamp’s work was gladly received and EcoCamp endeavours to continue developing sustainable initiatives in the years to come.
