After making it to Puerto Natales, a small town located on the edge of Last Hope Sound (Ultima Esperanza),  a Cascada representative will be waiting to transport us to our hotel. The rest of the day is at your leisure - you can dine out before settling into your cozy bed, ready to prepare for tomorrow’s exciting day!

Day 2: Sailing into Torres del Paine National Park

Torres del Paine National Park, Chile

Today we’ll wake up early to get to the Natales dock in time to board the catamaran that will sail through the oceanic waters of Last Hope Sound. The scenic journey will be unforgettable due to the famous Patagonian winds and sightings of local marine fauna. We will continue sailing until we reach the Bernardo O’Higgins National Park, home to diverse geological formations and the beautiful Balmaceda Glacier. Here we’ll enjoy a short walk towards the glacier lookout before boarding a Zodiac on the Serrano River.

After going over safety instructions, we’ll begin our exciting ride up the Serrano River. The amazing surroundings, with a splendid view of the Torres del Paine massif, make this ride particularly memorable. We'll even have a chance to get out and admire the Serrano waterfalls. Afterwards it’s time to board our twin boats and sail to the park administration to head off to EcoCamp!

Physical demands

No previous experience is required for this trip.

Easy to Moderate - An average level of fitness or some experience with the featured activity is recommended. While some activities may be optional, you may still have to walk, hike, bike or paddle for 2 to 3 hours daily. This includes less demanding sea kayaking and river rafting trips (Class I-II rapids).

Transport

In Torres del Paine and throughout Patagonia, transportation is in minivans that normally seat between 8 and 14 people.

Weather

The vast unbroken stretch of ocean to the west and south of the South American continent leaves the Patagonian Andes very exposed to the saturated winds that circle the Antarctic landmass. Fine weather may deteriorate almost without warning, bringing rain and even snow. Even in Summer (December to March) you should come prepared for cold, strong winds (up to 130 km/hr), rainfall, and more. Summer’s average temperature is 11ºC (52ºF), ranging between 2 to 24ºC (35 to 75ºF).

What you need to bring

We recommend a day backpack, waterproof parka and pants, inner isolating layer (fleece or wool), sun hat, sunscreen and sunglasses.

Itinerary modifications

We reserve the right to change the order of the days in any itinerary at the discretion of the trip guide based upon operational considerations. The trip guide can modify, change, or eliminate part of the itinerary based on these considerations.
