After an pick up from your hotel in Santiago in the morning we will head out of the city, across the Maipo Valley, and towards the Andes Mountains, ever growing closer and more visible as we continue.
Visitors will be surprised how quickly the grand metropolis of Santiago turns into country side and along the way local families come out to the street to sell “Empanadas” and “Pan Amasado”, typical rural foods, together with honey, homemade marmalade and wooden handcrafts.
After a short drive we will arrive at the Colorado River Canyon where are friendly and well trained horses will be waiting for us and begin riding upwards, through stunning landscapes constantly changing before our eyes as we go higher and higher. Beginning at the green vegetation and ancient tree filled base we will work our way up towards the craggy hills crowning the valley and finally on towards the plunging rock faces at the very top.
Depending on the season, a wide variety of waterfalls, streams and fresh mountain springs bubble out of the mountain, with condors and other birds frequently topping by for a sip and if we are lucky we will witness these friendly creatures in action.
After about 2 hours of riding through this spectacular landscape we arrive at our destination: Las Ramadas Plateau. Perched at the crown of the El Colorado valley this small mountain oasis is home to a small cabin with bathrooms and a terrace where we will enjoy a typical Chilean barbeque (vegetarian options available), the great view and a little bit of rest time before riding back down towards the canyon entrance.
Upon reaching the mouth of the canyon, board our cozy van and head back to Santiago.
