EcoCamp Patagonia set to reopen!

January 2, 2012 - 12:32

We are very happy to announce that the fire in Torres del Paine National Park, which has affected over 12,000 hectares in the park’s south-western sector, is currently under control. This means that the fire is no longer expanding and that the almost 800 firefighters working to control the blaze have the focal points under control and are working to extinguish the fire.

The north/north-eastern area of the park, where EcoCamp is located, has been unaffected. This means that the authorities have authorised access to this zone, including the Tower’s base, Los Cuernos, Serón, Dickson, Perros and Laguna Azul.

EcoCamp Patagonia is in perfect condition to receive guests from January 4th onwards. Very good news indeed to start the new year! Guests arriving tomorrow, January 3rd, will stay in a hotel in Puerto Natales, courtesy of EcoCamp Patagonia, and will be driven to the park the following morning.

Our trekking programs (5 and 7 day ‘W’ trek and 9 day Paine Circuit) have been modified so as to avoid the zones affected by the fire. Guests will most probably stay at EcoCamp on the scheduled nights and spend the additional nights scheduled for mountain huts at a campsite in the Laguna Azul sector. We will confirm all details regarding treks and accommodation as soon as they are finalised. Our Wildlife Safari program has also been subject to modification, with some daily activities being replaced by similar activities in the park’s unaffected zones.
